Are You Doing Work This National Home Improvement Month?

April 18, 2019

Yes, April is National Home Improvement Month, according to NAEA Propertymark. The organisation revealed that many of us are happy to spend money on making our homes nicer places to live too, with Brits collectively spending £48 billion on fixing up our properties in the past five years.

On average, we’ve spent £8,000 on DIY and other projects to improve our homes since 2014. Of those surveyed, over half said that they simply made modifications to make their homes nicer places to live.

23 per cent, meanwhile, carried out work because they thought it would be a good investment. Interestingly, 19 per cent of people purchased a fixer-upper property deliberately knowing that they’d need to make a lot of improvements.

There were also 12 per cent who said that they carried out work to create more space. If you’re looking for a way to extend your property, but don’t have the room for an above-ground extension, consider instead using your basement or cellar.

By investing in cellar tanking for this part of your home, you can make it a habitable, dry and cosy place to spend time, or even just a safe area for storage depending on what you’re looking for.

If you are thinking about carrying out a basement conversion, take a look at our new website cellartankinginlondon.com about what you need to be aware of. There are a number of signs that your basement needs more than just a coat of paint, such as a damp or musty odour, which can indicate there’s a damp issue.
