This summer’s heatwave has come to an abrupt end after Storm Debby made its appearance earlier this week.
After weeks of sunshine and temperatures exceeding 30 degrees C, most of the UK is currently experiencing strong winds and heavy rainstorms thanks to a tropical storm that has formed over the Atlantic. So unless you’ve sorted out good waterproofing of your basement or cellar, you might well find you have a few puddles here and there.
Storm Debby, which has had wind speeds of 50 miles per hour, has combined with other gales, resulting in plummeting temperatures and rainfall over Britain.
A spokeswoman from the Met Office, which has issued yellow warnings across eastern England, said: “Some locations will see heavy downpours, with 20 to 30 millimetres of rain in an hour. Lightning and hail may also prove disruptive.”
The Met Office added that “unsettled conditions” will continue throughout the week, with strong winds and showers.
This marks a steep contrast in weather conditions of late, after experiencing 64 days of zero average rainfall between January and July, and 47 consecutive days of somewhere in Britain having temperatures of more than 24C.
Greg Dewhurt, from the Met Office, told the Mirror that heavy rain can be expected to continue for the next couple of weeks, adding: “It is pretty normal weather for this time of year.”
Regardless of this, homeowners with basements might be worried their cellars will suffer in this wet weather due to the excess moisture in the air.
Therefore, it is a good idea to call in damp proofing experts in Surrey who can waterproof your basement so you do not have to worry about adverse weather conditions affecting your home.
